Learning from a corpus of students' academic writing

This paper summarizes the results of a study based on students´ academic writings. The is grounded Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) theory and pedagogy, in particular 3x3 matrix, SFL framework successfully implemented Australian schools (Humphrey, Martin, Dreyfus & Mahboob, 2010) Teaching Learning Cycle (Callaghan Rothery, 1988). took place at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with 33 students from Humanities content subject. an English medium instruction higher education institution where, for most students, not their mother tongue. Samples studentsâ writing were analysed classroom to identify successful moves express field, manner tenor genre argumentative essays.
